Advancement Wrap-up & Gear Swap – Aug 11

The troop meeting on August 11th will include advancement wrap-up so make sure that you bring your scout book and come prepared for a scout master conference and board of review if you need one.

Also on August 11th, the troop will be having a gear swap/sale — bring your unwanted camping gear to sell at affordable prices, and your money to buy affordable gear. We will be auctioning off the lost and found items — 20 minutes after the lost owners have had a chance to claim and identify it.

You don’t want to miss this meeting!

Scout Safety Meeting Jan. 27 – Attendance Required

Dear Scouts, Scouters & Scout Families,

On January 27, 2014, 7PM, Troop 365 will have our annual Scout Safety meeting. Attendance is required of Scouts & Scouters. I encourage a parent to join your son.

“Be Prepared” is the Boy Scout Motto and that is what our evening will address. Mr. Ron Grocki will talk about bullying, personal safety, and will present a BSA prepared DVD called “A Time to Tell.” This video teaches the boys and adults how to keep a lookout for predatory activities and teaches them what to do if they are in an uncomfortable, compromised, or dangerous situation.

These are not easy subjects to address but we are committed to the safety of the boys and we want to ensure that everyone has a very clear understanding of what is appropriate and what is not. Parents, please join us so that should your son have questions on the ride home or later, you will have the common experience as a reference.

Thank you for entrusting BSA Troop 365 with your son.

If your son is unable to attend or you have other concerns, please email me at wralsnauer @ gmail.com or call my cell @ 614-296-5960.

Sincerely,

Bill Alsnauer

All participants can then be picked up after the regular meeting adjournment (approximately 8:30pm).

May 04

What’s New for May, 2012?

Well, calendar changes for one!  We try really hard to not do this, but occasionally we need to change the dates.  Here’s what’s going on in May, 2012:

May 5th – THERE IS NO SERVICE PROJECT ON THIS DAY! (You’ll find one on May 19th instead).

May 7th – The Troop Rocket Shoot– 7PM at the Thomas Worthington High School Flats, down toward the river past the football field.  Bring your rocket; an engine in case the Troop does not have one that fits; and don’t forget your NASA crash helmet! (just in case).  IF IT RAINS, OR WIND IS STRONGER THAN 10MPH, we will meet as we regularly do, at the Church.  In that event, we’ll go launching the following Monday, May 14th.

May 8th – PLC meeting at the Church, 7PM, for the SPL, ASPL’s, Patrol Leaders, and other Troop Officers!  Lots of work to do, including how we are handling these changes!

May 12thRAPPELLING!!! Hanging over a cliff on a rope– it doesn’t get any better than that! (at least for some of you, including grandmothers, but not this Scoutmaster).  Remember– If you are not yet 14, you MUST bring a parent (or other adult responsible for you).

May 14th – Regular meeting at the Church, unless we didn’t get to launch rockets the week before.

May 15th – Troop Committee Meeting, 7PM at the Church.  All adults welcome.

May 19th – Okay – NOW we’ll do our Service to the community.  What, you ask?  Clean up the river?  No.  Plant a Rain Garden? No.  Clear a half-acre of invasive plants, weeds and poison ivy at Hoover Prairie?  BINGO!  You heard correctly – Be there at 9AM; plan to stay until 2PM; hope we finish by 1PM.  Wear a long sleeve shirt and long pants; bring gloves; bring water bottles (filled with water, duh!); bring a sack lunch.  The Troop will bring the First Aid kit, extra water, soap, and the calamine lotion!  We’ll have directions at the meetings.  Remember – This is MANDATORY for a lot of reasons, including advancement!

May 21st – Regular Meeting at the Church– WAIT!  Not-so-regular meeting– It’s our Annual Patrol Cook-off and Gear Inspection!  The judges are hungry, so the dishes better be good!  And see if Black Dragon can find that good spatula that’s missing from their patrol box!  It’s also Troop Officer Elections that night– and the Last Time to Turn in Advancements for the June Court of Honor.  Whew~! That’s a lot of stuff for one night.  Adults– please come early to help set up.  Scouts– please come early to get started!

May 28th – No Meeting– We’ll be marching in the Memorial Day Parade!  Uniforms and smiles mandatory; rain gear optional.

May 29th – PLC meeting and Cookout at Wilson Hill Park at 6PM.
