Jerry Roderick’s Mother

Dear Scouts and Scouters, I am sad to pass along some news to you. Yesterday Jerry Roderick’s mother passed away unexpectedly. I have talked with Jerry and Karen and they are coping as best they can. They do need your help.

Special Olympics is this Saturday and Sunday. We need a few more parents/adults on Saturday. Please call me at 296-5960 to volunteer.
Second, we are going to postpone this Monday’s Court of Honor and subsequently not have a Scout meeting this Monday night. The COH will be early in January.

Please consider Jerry and Karen in your thoughts and prayers. I will post the details on visiting & funeral arrangements. I am hopeful that we, as a Troop, will be able to provide the support and care in this time. I do request that Scouts visit the funeral home as those details are available in their best uniform presentation.

“and now, may the great scoutmaster be with us till we meet again”

Eagle Courts of Honor

To: Parents, Scouts, Scouters
From: Bill Alsnauer, committee chair
Re: (2) Eagle Courts of Honor

Hi, we have (2) Eagle Courts coming up.  The first is 12.30.12 for Alex J and the next is Drew T on 1.6.2013.  If you’ve not been in a while or if you have a Scout that has not, please consider attending.  The rank of Eagle is something all Scouts tell me they want to be.  I think having the boys attend from time to time is essential in their own development in seeing what can be.  Check the calendar for specifics on time and place.

Congratulations to Alex & Drew.

Name the Turtle Contest 2013

The “Turtle” is returning April 27 and 28, 2013 and it needs a name. Try your hand at naming the 2013 “Turtle”. If your name is selected, it will be used on the neckerchief that will be given to all participants. In addition you will be recognized at the Campfire with some neat prizes.

What is the “Turtle”? The “Turtle” is a very special Buckeye District Camporee and comes only once every 4 years on two feet, two wheels or possibly two paddles. The “Turtle” will be 52 years old in 2013.

Previous names have been (in order since 1961): Silver Turtle (1), Gold Turtle (2), Bronze Turtle (3), Green Turtle (4), Bicentennial Turtle (5), Silent Turtle (6), Diamond Turtle (7), Presidential Turtle (8), Discovery Turtle (9), Pedal Paddle Pack Turtle (10), Dave’s Turtle (11), Freedom Turtle (12) and the Century of Scouting Turtle (13th).

As you can see, the name needs to be short and end with “Turtle”.

You can email your entry or snail mail it by using the form below. Each entry must include the “Turtle” name, your full name, your Scout Troop, Scoutmaster Name and his Phone Number. Get your entry to Tom Pauling by 31 January 2013.

“Turtle” Rules:

  • All entries must be delivered to Tom Pauling by 6 pm 31 January 2013.
  • Include the name of the Turtle (ending in “Turtle”), your name, your Scout Masters Name and your troop number.
  • Only Registered Buckeye District Scouts are eligible.
  • Only one name per email or entry.
  • In case of ties, the earliest entry received will be the winner.

Good luck to all Scouts…..
