Congratulations to Jim K., the newly-elected Vice President representing Sea Scouts, in the Venturing Officers’ Association for Simon Kenton Council. Jim will be responsible for venturing programming events involving Sea Scout Ships in Buckeye and Arrowhead Districts. Jim is an Eagle Scout from Troop 365 and participates with both Sea Scout Ship 468 (Able Rank) and Venturing Crew 45 Shooting Sports. Recently Jim has also earned the Bronze Award in Venturing, is an NRA-Certified Rifle Instructor, and was selected as youth staff for the 2013 National Boy Scouts Jamboree.

Turkey Shoot Safety Instruction – November 12
Reminder: The Turkey Shoot Safety Instruction will be held during the regular troop meeting on November 12th. All scouts and scouters that wish to participate in the shooting and archery activities during the Turkey Shoot outing must attend this meeting. If you do not attend the safety meeting, you will not be allowed to participate in the shooting or archery activities.
Turkey Shoot – November 15-17
What: Shooting rifles, shotguns, your “pre-approved” gun; archery, tomahawks, atlatl-throw; first aid;
pioneering activities; eating awesome food including turkeys; ceremonies and stories around the
campfire; the Frontier(*) Trading Post will be open for business.
* Not to be confused with the Camp’s trading post, which will be closed
When: Be at the Church Friday, November 16, at 5:30PM to load up the bus, and leave soon thereafter. We return to the Church Sunday, November 18 by 12:30PM. (Troop gear will be loaded Thursday evening into the trailer- your help is appreciated!)
Where: At our NEW rendezvous point ~~~ Shawnee Campsite, Camp Chief Logan. 3 latrines, fully
functional; spectacular wilderness view; quiet neighborhood (no cows); NRA-certified rifle range.
Bring: Class A uniform on the bus (as always); clothing for the weather; see Handout for other stuff.
DO NOT BRING: Your own ammo; Your own weapon if it has not been “pre-approved”.
Cost: $35.00 — covers transportation, food, lodging, and all of the ammo and arrows we bring.
Simon Kenton Council Training – November 17
The Simon Kenton Council Training Committee is sponsoring a Specific Training opportunity on November 17 at the Simon Kenton Leadership Development Center on Kinnear Rd. starting at 9 AM until 3 PM.
Courses to be offered are:
- Cub Scout Training: Den Leader Basics and it is a new syllabus. It is for all Den Leaders, Assistant Den Leaders, Webelos Leaders, Assistant Webelos Leaders, Cubmasters and Assistant Cubmasters
- Boy Scout Leader Training: Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster Training is for all Scoutmasters and Assistants
- Venture Training: Basic Adult Leader Training is for all Crew Advisers and Assistants
All Direct Contact leaders must be trained for the position in which they they are registered by December 31, 2012. If you or any of your registered leaders are not trained, they need to attend this event. This includes Cub leaders who change positions such as Den Leader to Webelos Den Leader or Cubmaster.
Cost is FREE – Attendees are asked to bring a lunch and beverage/water. Registration is required by November 14.

All able-bodied Scouts of all Ranks! Adults, Leaders, and Parents of all ages! Sign-on NOW to be part of the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. This will be our “out of state” summer camp, complete with merit badge offerings and skills, designed for those who have attended a week-long away-from-home summer camp before (or bring your parent with you). BUT-in addition to the advancements, we will take part in the living history demonstrations, the 5-part hiking patch, the battlefield tours, and most exciting of all- the battle re-enactments- including the guns, cannons, horses, smoke, smells, sounds, and atmosphere of what it was like to be there 150 years ago!

Fruit & Greenery Reminder
This is the last weekend for Fruit & Greenery sales as the forms are due Monday October 22nd at the regular troop meeting. Get out and sell as much as you can before the Monday cut-off.
Completed sales forms must be turned in at the Monday troop meeting. No late orders will be accepted. If your son can not attend this meeting, you must make arrangements to get the sales sheets turned in on or before this date.

Rappelling Fall 2012 – October 27
What: Rappelling at Conkles Hollow in the Hocking Hills State Park with our BSA certified Rappel Masters. Come spend the day with us hanging over a cliff on a rope– it doesn’t get any better than that! Complete 13 rappels (6 for the adults) and you earn your Rappel Knot.
Who: Scouts, Leaders, Parents (and even Grandmothers). BSA rules require a parent be present if you are under 14 years old. Parents are welcome to rappel but not required.
When: Saturday, October 27, 2012 – leave the Church at 7AM and return approximately 4PM.
Bring: Leather work gloves, long pants, boots, water bottle. You will also need to pack your own lunch. Eat breakfast before you come. Dress in layers and appropriately for the weather.
Cost: $15.00
New Eagle Scout – Drew T
CONGRATULATIONS to Drew T on earning and achieving his Eagle rank, the highest honor in Scouting! Drew passed his Board of Review tonight (October 8, 2012) making him the 6th Eagle scout this year from BSA Troop 365.
Kyle Sink – Eagle Court of Honor
Congratulations to Kyle Sink who was honored at his Eagle Scout Court of Honor today! Kyle actually earned his Eagle rank back in May of this year, but today he was able to celebrate this achievement with his family and friends.

Mountain Biking/Canoeing/Hiking/Fossil Hunting – October 19-21
What: Mountain Biking/Canoeing/Hiking/Fossil Hunting at Caesar’s Creek State Park, in Ohio, and NOT in Kentucky. Lots of things to do at Caesar’s Creek.
Where: Caesar’s Creek State Park, in Ohio
When: Leave the Church on Friday October 19 at 9AM (that is a day off from school for most public schools) and return on Sunday October 21 at 12:30PM.
Cost: Cost will be $35 — includes transportation, camping fee, food and canoe/kayak rentals.
Bring: Regular weekend camping gear for 3 days/2 nights camping; Scout handbook; proper clothing for the weather; mountain bike.
We still need 2 adults who are willing to bike with the bikers (we have the adults who are willing to canoe with the canoers).
