The Buckeye Trail Camporee III, Follow the Blue Blazes
Interested in hiking? Perhaps you want to start hiking to get into Philmont shape? Want to get out on the trail to enjoy the nice Spring time weather. Well here is your chance. It’s the third Buckeye Trail camporee. Join other area Troops at the AEP Recreation lands of Eastern Ohio for a 6 mile hike on the Buckeye Trail and complete at least 2 hours of trail maintenance in conjunction with the Buckeye Trail Association. The service project has something for every skill level. Anything from building a bridge, moving branches and logs with rope, using a pick axe, prune bushes, and using shovels.
Plan on wearing a Class B for Saturday during the hike and trail maintenance. Class A uniform required for campout OA Tap-Out. Dinner is provided and consist of BBQ Pork (pig roast on site), Baked Beans, Potato Salad. Chicken is available as an alternative for Religious and or health requirements by request. Each person should plan on bringing safety glasses, work gloves, good hiking boots, and at least
2 quarts of water for the service project.
WHEN: Meet at Worthington United Methodist Church 5:30 pm Friday night so we can leave by 6:00pm! Eat dinner before you come or bring something to eat on the bus.
RETURN: Sunday, April 26, at 1:00 pm at the Worthington United Methodist Church.
BRING: Fishing poles, tackle box, safety glasses, loppers, backpack, work gloves, and two water bottles. I am sure that the weather will be nice but in the off chance that it rains, it is highly recommended that you pack your rain gear. Also, make sure that you have access to a head lamp as we will arrive at the campsites in the dark on Friday night. For other recommended items, please refer to your Scout Handbook on pages 264, 292, and 293 for a list of recommended basic essentials.
COST: $25 turned in by Monday, April 20, 2015. This cost covers transportation, food, and campsite for the event. Participants also earn a patch for the event.
